Frank H. Lau, MD, FACS
Frank H. Lau, MD, FACS, is a board-certified plastic surgeon practicing with SonoBello in Portland, Oregon. He brings together more than two decades of experience as a surgeon, scientist, educator, and entrepreneur.
Dr. Lau earned his Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biochemistry and Biophysics from Yale College and his medical degree, with research honors, from the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed his plastic surgery training in the Harvard Combined Plastic Surgery Training Program at Brigham and Women's Hospital, which included a two-year research fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Regenerative Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
From 2014 to 2024, Dr. Lau served on the faculty of the LSU Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in New Orleans, rising to Professor of Clinical Surgery in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He also served as the division's Associate Program Director and held adjunct appointments at Tulane University, LSU's Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, and the Pennington Biomedical Research Center. A dedicated mentor, he has trained more than 30 medical students, residents, and fellows, many of whom have gone on to careers in plastic surgery.
As principal investigator of the Lau Tissue Engineering Lab, Dr. Lau has led research spanning adipose tissue biology, regenerative wound healing, limb salvage, hernia prevention, and breast cancer modeling. His work has been supported by industry, institutional, and NIH funding, and he has authored approximately 60 peer-reviewed publications. He developed two surgical techniques, tissue engineering-based limb salvage and tumescent-based radical excision for hidradenitis suppurativa, and has presented his work at national and international meetings. His honors include LSUHSC's Outstanding Accomplishments by a Junior Faculty Member Award, and he served as an Academic Editor for PLoS ONE.
Dr. Lau is also an experienced entrepreneur. He is the founder and CEO of Keliomics and Lipovectra, and previously founded Firecracker and Simple Milestones. Before medical school, he worked as a credit derivatives trading analyst at UBS Warburg.
