Light Therapy

Light Therapy

Clear Choice Dermatology is happy to provide in-office phototherapy for psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo, and chronic itch at our locations in The Dalles, Lake Oswego, and Salem.

Phototherapy or light therapy is a prescription treatment that is prescribed by a board-certified dermatologist. Phototherapy involves exposing the skin to ultraviolet light on a regular basis and under medical supervision. Treatments are done in a doctor's office. The key to success with light therapy is consistency.

Typically Ultraviolet B, which is present in natural sunlight, is the most effective type of light therapy for psoriasis, eczema, chronic itch, and vitiligo. We utilize Narrow-band UVB light bulbs as they release a smaller range of ultraviolet light, may clear psoriasis faster, typically produce longer remission, and may require fewer treatments per week. Narrow-band UVB is also very safe (as it does not contain harmful rays like the sun) and has been used for many decades with minimal side effects.
