Dermatology Trained Physician Assistant

William Bies, DMSc, PA-C, is a Physician Associate with more than 30 years of clinical experience, including nearly 25 years in dermatology. His career in medicine began in the United States Navy, where he earned his PA-C while on active duty and provided occupational health and family medicine care to service members and their families.
After retiring from the Navy, William turned his focus to dermatology. He practiced at Affiliated Dermatology from 2000 to 2007 and then at Peninsula Dermatology from 2007 to 2025. There he maintained his own patient panel, caring for patients of all ages with both medical and surgical skin concerns.

His primary interest is medical dermatology, particularly skin cancer surveillance and treatment, dermatitis, and acne. He also has a strong interest in using immunotherapy to treat psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and other challenging skin conditions. He is skilled in biopsies and minor surgical procedures and works collaboratively with Mohs surgeons on more complex cases.
William holds a Doctor of Medical Science from Shenandoah University, a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska, and a Bachelor of Science from The George Washington University.

Outside the clinic, William's commitment to patient care extends overseas. He and his wife lead an annual medical mission trip to Malawi, and he serves as a volunteer consultant with Children of the Nations, helping develop medical standards and outreach programs in Africa and the Caribbean. This work has kept his family medicine skills sharp throughout his career.
William and his wife enjoy traveling together, especially cruising. Above all, they treasure time with their five adult children and six grandchildren, all of whom live nearby.
