Yearly Skin Exam

It is highly recommended that patients who have experienced frequent sun exposure receive an annual skin exam. New, changing, or otherwise suspicious moles, sores that will not heal, or new lesions that are red or scaly may all be indicative of skin cancers or precancerous lesions. In addition, if you have a family history of skin cancer, you have a higher risk of developing skin cancer yourself.

If you have had skin cancer, a yearly or sometimes more frequent exam may be recommended. Those who have been treated for melanoma must watch their skin closely for changes and seek treatment immediately with any suspicious lesions.
